“Educating , from the Latin educere , means leading young people to move beyond themselves and introducing them to reality, towards a fullness that leads to growth. This process is fostered by the encounter of two freedoms, that of adults and that of the young. It calls for responsibility on the part of the learners, who must be open to being led to the knowledge of reality, and on the part of educators, who must be ready to give of themselves. For this reason, today more than ever we need authentic witnesses, and not simply people who parcel out rules and facts; we need witnesses capable of seeing farther than others because their life is so much broader. A witness is someone who first lives the life that he proposes to others.” - Pope Benedict 16th, World Day Of Peace Message, 2012
“The Eucharist is the sacrament of love: it signifies love, it produces love. The Eucharist is the consummation of the whole spiritual life.” - St. Thomas Aquinas
Our Pre-First Holy Communion class introduces kids to the spiritual life through prayer and theology. Students learn about God, our Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit. Through mass, students began to learn and understand Jesus in the Eucharist. During this course students will begin to learn the basic prayers of the Catholic Church including the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be. Students will learn how to start incorporating prayer into their daily lives. They will learn about the lives of the saints and how we can grow in relationship to these special saints.
The First Holy Communion class prepares the minds, hearts and souls of the students to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Through prayer and teachings, students learn what it means to truly receive the sacrament of holy communion. In this course students gain a better understanding of the parts of the mass, the teachings of the Church, and the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Students prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation and grow in their spiritual journey to be united to Christ through the sacrament of all sacraments, the Eucharist.
"Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accomplished by deeds." - CCC 1316
Confirmation I is a two part series that introduces the students to what it means to live an authentic Catholic life. The first part consists of the teachings of the Church, how we worship, the study of saints, the sacraments and the mission of the Church. The second part of the course focuses on the spiritual life and teaches the students how to grow closer to God through prayer and the sacraments. Preparing to receive a sacrament is a discernment process that the students goes through alongside their parents, priest, and sponsors.
Confirmation II is a two part series that dives deeper into the doctrine of the Church. Students learn more about a life in Christ and the moral teachings of the Church. The second part of the course incorporates living a life in the spirit as they prepare to receive the Holy Spirit in a deeper and more profound way. Confirmation II focuses on preparing the individual souls to open their hearts to the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit so they are able to go forth and live out their mission in Christ.
Adult Confirmation is a personal journey the student makes along with their mentor and sponsor. Students begin their journey by taking the Searching for Truth confirmation course. This course introduces the students to the teachings of the Church, how we worship, the study of saints, the sacraments, and the mission of the Church. After this course the student goes on to work with their individualized mentor to journey through Catholicism and prepare to receive the Holy Spirit in a deeper way through the sacrament of Confirmation.
"Christian initiation is accomplished by three sacraments together: Baptism which is the beginning of new life; Confirmation which is its strengthening; and the Eucharist which nourishes the disciple with Christ's Body and Blood for his transformation in Christ." - CCC 1275
